Raw dehydrated mushroom contains its active biocompounds trapped behind a chitin cell wall that the human digestive system cannot efficiently break down. Extract is the result of processing the mushroom in water and in alcohol to break that wall and release the active compounds (beta-glucans, triterpenes, polysaccharides) in bioavailable form. A well-made extract can contain up to 10 times more active compounds per gram than simple mushroom powder.

In our adaptogen line — powders, capsules and tinctures — we use exclusively standardized extracts; never mushroom that has simply been dehydrated and ground. The whole dried mushrooms in our gourmet line are a different thing altogether: food, not extract.

The active compounds in functional mushrooms are not all soluble in the same medium: polysaccharides and beta-glucans are water-soluble, while triterpenes and some fatty acids are fat-soluble and require alcohol. Dual extraction combines both processes sequentially, ensuring the final extract contains the full spectrum of biocompounds. It is especially important for Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum, rich in triterpenes) and Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus, with fat-soluble hericenones).

At Simbiosis our dual extraction is ultrasound-assisted: cavitation breaks the chitin wall without heat, which means neither phase passes through hot decoction. Powders and capsules are then freeze-dried. You can read the full process at Extraction Methods.

Our extracts come from cultivation controlled under good manufacturing practices. The extraction process removes potential contaminants. We work with suppliers who guarantee the absence of pesticides and heavy metals above established safety limits. Certificates of analysis are available for distributors and health professionals who request them.

Our pure mushroom extracts do not contain gluten, dairy, soy, nuts, or other declared common allergens. Capsules are formulated with a plant-based cellulose shell (vegan-friendly). If you have specific allergies, contact us and we'll review each batch's ingredients with you.

Yes. All our products — powders and capsules — are 100% plant-based (fungal). Capsules use a plant-derived HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) shell.

The active content is identical — only the format changes. Powder offers more dosing flexibility and can be mixed into drinks. Capsules guarantee a precise 500 mg dose per capsule and are convenient for travel or for those who'd rather not taste it. For equivalent effects, 1 g of powder = 2 capsules of 500 mg.

24 months from the manufacturing date, when stored in a cool, dry place. The date is printed on the packaging. Once opened, use within 12 months.

Adaptogens are not fast-acting drugs. Effects build progressively: between weeks 2 and 4, some users report initial improvements in energy or sleep; weeks 6 through 12 are where clinical research documents the most significant results. A minimum 8-week protocol is essential to evaluate real results.

It depends on the species. Cordyceps and Lion's Mane work well in the morning (energy and cognitive support). Reishi is ideal in the evening (sleep and relaxation support). The 8-Mushroom Blend can be taken any time, though morning is most common. See our Consumption Guide for more detail by species.

Yes. Functional mushrooms act synergistically. Our 8-Mushroom Blend is formulated to take advantage of that synergy. If you combine individual products, dosages stay the same per species — you don't need to reduce them just because you're taking them together.

It's not required. Adaptogens do not build tolerance or dependence. Some people prefer to take a 1–2 week break every 3 months as a matter of protocol, but there's no evidence this is necessary. Consistency in daily use is what matters most.

Available clinical research has been conducted in adults. As a precaution, we do not recommend use in children without prior specific pediatric consultation.

As a general precaution with any supplement, we recommend consulting your doctor or OB-GYN before starting during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The first trimester calls for the greatest caution.

It depends on the medication. The groups that call for the most attention are: anticoagulants (Reishi and Cordyceps have antiplatelet activity), immunosuppressants (in transplant patients), hypoglycemic agents (Maitake and Chaga may potentiate the effect), and antihypertensives (Maitake has mild hypotensive activity). If you take chronic medication, always consult your doctor before starting.
