Consumption Guide — How to Take Your Functional Mushrooms
Simbiosis Consumption Guide
Functional mushrooms are adaptogens, not drugs. Their effect is not immediate — it is built through consistent use. This guide explains how to bring them into your daily routine to get the most out of them.
The core principle: consistency is everything
Adaptogens work because they recalibrate physiological systems — the HPA stress axis, the immune system, cellular metabolism. That recalibration takes time. Most clinical studies with functional mushrooms show statistically significant results between week 4 and week 12. Taking the powder one day and expecting results the next is like expecting muscle after a single workout.
Minimum recommended protocol: 8 weeks of continuous daily use.
Formats available at Simbiosis
Extract powder
- Advantages: Versatile preparation, adjustable dose, better absorption.
- How to use: Dissolve 1–2 g (one level teaspoon) in hot liquid — coffee, tea, broth, plant milk. It also works in cold smoothies, although absorption is slightly lower.
- Temperature: It does not affect the active compounds. You can boil the powder in the case of Chaga (traditional infusion at 70°C).
- Taste: Varies by species. Reishi has a slight bitterness; Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane are almost neutral; Chaga recalls tea with notes of vanilla; Shiitake brings umami.
Capsules
- Advantages: Precise, consistent dosing, convenient for travel, no taste.
- How to use: 2 capsules (500 mg each) per day, with water. They can be taken with or without food.
- When: In the morning for Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane (cognitive and energetic stimulation). At night or before sleep for Reishi (sleep support and relaxation).

Can I take several mushrooms at the same time?
Yes. Functional mushrooms act synergistically — their biocompounds complement one another. The Simbiosis 8-Mushroom Blend is formulated precisely to take advantage of that synergy. If you use individual products and want to combine them, the best-documented combinations are:
- Cognitive focus: Lion’s Mane + Cordyceps (energy + mental clarity)
- Deep immunity: Reishi + Turkey Tail + Chaga
- Athletic performance: Cordyceps + Maitake
- General balance: Reishi + Lion’s Mane (the most popular pairing)
When will I start to notice results?
- First 1–2 weeks: Some users report higher baseline energy or a slight improvement in sleep, especially with Cordyceps and Reishi. These are initial effects, not the full effect.
- Weeks 3–6: Most users begin to notice clearer differences in energy, focus or sleep quality.
- Weeks 8–12: The window where scientific research documents the most significant results — immunomodulation, stress adaptation, cardiovascular and metabolic benefits.
Storage
- Keep in a cool, dry place, away from direct light.
- Do not refrigerate (condensation degrades the active compounds).
- Close tightly after each use.
- Shelf life: 24 months from manufacture if stored correctly.
Frequently asked questions about use
Can they be taken on an empty stomach?
Yes. Most mushroom extracts do not irritate an empty stomach. If you feel digestive discomfort, take them with food.
Do I have to take breaks?
It is not mandatory for most people. That said, some protocols recommend pauses of 1–2 weeks every 3 months. Adaptogens do not create tolerance or dependence.
Can I give functional mushrooms to my children?
Research is focused on adults. As a precaution, we do not recommend their use in minors without prior pediatric consultation.
Are they compatible with my medication?
It depends on the medication. Always consult your physician if you take anticoagulants, immunosuppressants, glucose-lowering drugs or antihypertensives. Reishi and Cordyceps have documented interactions with these groups.
