Fungal Art — Where the Mushroom Becomes Object
Mushrooms have inspired artists, shamans, poets and scientists for millennia. At Simbiosis we hold that art is another form of knowledge — as valid as science — for relating to the fungal kingdom. And that the deepest knowledge often lives not in universities, but in the forests, in the hands of those who have walked them across generations.
This section gathers work by the artists and knowledge-keepers who collaborate with Simbiosis, artisanal objects, and a curated fungal bibliography. Everything here carries one intention: to bring the universe of the mushroom into your daily life with beauty, thought and coherence.

César Kevin Pérez Pacheco
Designer · Artist · Biologist · Mycologist · Oaxaca, Mexico
An Oaxacan biologist specialising in the wild mushrooms of pine-oak forest. A mycologist devoted to Mexico’s edible fungi, and to the study and public understanding of fungal culture through photography and scientific posters. Collaborator at the Mycology Laboratory of the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara.
An independent graphic artist and devotee of screen printing, he draws on mushrooms to press ink into fabric and paper — regarding fungi as the most photogenic and generous beings in the workings of an ecosystem.
His body of work at Simbiosis spans 29 original screen prints made between 2021 and 2024 — from intimate half-letter pieces to large tabloid formats — where the fungal universe, Oaxacan identity and reflection on nature intertwine in every pull of ink.

Nanacatera · Forager · Guardian of the forest · Omitlán de Juárez, Hidalgo
Francisca is a nanacatera — the name the original peoples of central Mexico give to the women who devote themselves to seeking and gathering wild edible mushrooms (nanacatl in Nahuatl). Born in Omitlán de Juárez, Hidalgo, she has been foraging the forests of the Sierra Hidalguense for as long as she can remember — knowledge inherited from her family and forged across countless walks through the woods in the rainy season.
Exhibitor at the First International Mushroom Festival 2025 in Mineral del Chico, Hidalgo. Her collaboration with Simbiosis is a bridge between the ancestral knowledge of the forests and the urban public drawing near to the world of fungi.
